Retailers selling non-essential goods were forced to close from Thursday, November 5th, including many small businesses in our town. Many of these shops brought in online delivery during the last lockdown – these businesses really need our support! Why not think about doing your Christmas shopping with them during lockdown and help support a local entrepreneur rather than some faceless international corporate. Original Shrewsbury do amazing work marketing the town of Shrewsbury, and their website has a guide to local retailers with an online presence – check it out by clicking on the logo below:
Our Group recently received official recognition from the Lord Lieutenant of Shropshire, Mrs Anna Turner, for its fabulous work supporting the community during the pandemic.
Chair John Ingham says : “The Belle Vue & Coleham Community Action Group was formed over a year ago and we are delighted to share congratulations and recognition of our Sub-Covid Community Support Group. The committee is very grateful for this recognition. This would not have been possible without the dedication of our committee, who formed the Group over a year ago to make what was already a strong community even stronger. As a whole, we all strive to make our community an even better place to live, work and play for the future, and we are immensely proud of this our latest achievement. The Covid Support Group has been an invaluable addition throughout this pandemic and continues to offer a great service. We appreciate that no one should ever be alone, or in need in these stressful times!!”
“The Covid Support sub-group provides a range of services to our community from shopping, walking man’s best friend, support to our friends in isolation and much more. This of course would have not been possible without the dedicated work of Councillor Kate Halliday, Nigel Fielden, Deborah Fielden and Diane Peacock who formed the Covid Support sub-group, together with all the wonderful volunteers who support them and the community as a whole. We want to assure our community that the service will remain in place for the foreseeable future for the residents of Belle Vue & Coleham.”
“As a group we have been fortunate to have the loyal support of our local Councillor Kate Halliday, who from its conception to the present day has been an invaluable asset to both groups for which we are all very grateful. We have seen amazing community spirit since March in many forms, and we would like to thank The Lord Lieutenant, Mrs Anna Turner for this official vote of thanks.”
If you, or anyone you know in our community of Belle Vue & Coleham that needs support in any way, please don’t hesitate to get in touch using the ways mentioned here.
Our chair John Ingham was interviewed by BBC Radio Shropshire’s Michaela Wylde on Thursday 29th October about the Group and its activities. You can hear that interview in two parts by clicking on the buttons below:
Belle Vue and Coleham Community Action Group, supported by Kate Halliday – Councillor for Belle Vue ward, are taking the lead in helping out in the community during a time when some people are experiencing difficulty in accessing what they need due to being told to self-isolate or concern about catching the virus.
Our aim is to support people who are self-isolating by helping with activities such as shopping, dog walking, changing library books or simply making a friendly phone call to those who are spending time on their own. Would you be interested in being a volunteer? We need not only people who can go out in the community helping individuals, but also people who are self-isolating but not sick, to help with organisation and coordination. If you are interested in volunteering, please get in touch using one of the ways on the Volunteer page and a member of our team will get in touch.
On the other hand, if you are unable to get out and about for whatever reason and you need help, please visit the Need Help page to see how you can get support.
Look out for our leaflet coming through your door in the next couple of days, and keep it safe in case you need support in the weeks ahead.
